Infant
What does it mean to be an Infant birth – 11 months?
Infant Care & Development: Emotional connection is essential for infants’ overall development, therefore building a strong relationship and identifying an infant’s interest and personality is vital. Infants need a sensory-rich environment that allows them to use their senses and explore cause-effect materials. A high-quality environment for infants will typically have ample space for them to move freely, roll over, crawl, and pull up. The Let’s Play Curriculum that is used in our program is flexible, engaging, and fun for all age groups. We look forward to sharing life-long learning experiences with your child.
Stages of Play:
Unoccupied play: Infants engage in simple play activities, such as grasping, dropping, and banging objects. They are responsive to movement and sounds; they react to other behavior. They start to discover body parts and can attempt to control movement.
Toddler
What does it mean to be a Toddler 12 months-2 years old?
Toddlers Care & Development: Consistently engaging in meaningful interactions and conversations with toddlers is important, as this will support their learning in all of the domains. Children start to follow one-step directions and experiment with language. At this stage, children will notice when someone is hurt, upset or happy. They use gestures, point to pictures in books and point to body parts. This is a great time to encourage self-help skills (climb a few stairs, eat with a spoon, kick a ball). The Let’s Play Curriculum used in our program will develop and enhance toddlers’ skills in all domains through experiential and intentional teaching practices. We look forward to sharing life-long learning experiences with your child.
Stages of Play:
Solitary Play: Toddlers enjoy playing alone and start to understand the purpose of objects and toys as they use them based on their function (putting a doll to bed, rolling a ball). Children start to talk about their ideas and begin to use vocabulary to communicate their needs. Limitation of technology ( TV, tablets, phones, etc) is recommended. Children learn best through interacting, playing, and talking with others.
Preschool Age Children
What Does it Mean to be Three?
Children are curious and enthusiastic about the world. They may start to ask “who” “what,” or why questions and participate in parallel play. They will play next to a child but may not interact with them in a meaningful way. Children may follow 2 or 3 step directions and imitate the behavior of adults or children. During this developmental stage it is encouraged to work on conflict resolution, ask questions, and help your child think of solutions and role play scenarios with figurines. Develop oral skills by speaking in longer sentences using real words, sing rhyming songs and ask questions during reading activities. The Let’s Play Curriculum used in our program engages children in meaningful play and ensures that learning occurs in all aspects of the daily schedule. We look forward to sharing life-long learning experiences with your child.
Associative Play: Children may interact with each other during play activities and talk to each other about what they are doing (e.g; “I am playing blocks”) but may not cooperatively play with other children.
Four Year Old Children
What Does it Mean to be Four?
Four-year olds engage in activities for a longer period of time and work with a purpose. They are ready to engage in cooperative play and start to negotiate solutions to conflicts. Children participate in pretend play with purpose and understanding. They are able to name a few colors or items and can retell and recall some parts of the story.
Pre-K children are ready for more advanced learning and organized building skills. Our integrated approach will help children learn multiple skills at the same time. Children will develop listening and language skills through interactive group activities and conversations that occur throughout the course of the day. We have defined learning centers that encourage children to explore and challenge them to take risks. Our program introduces our 4-year-olds to math, science, literacy, and social skills through inquiry project-based learning activities.
Social and Cooperative Play: Children ages 4-8 years old engage in games that involve rules, turn taking, sharing, and negotiation.
